mike, joel and i floated the lower madison saturday. we put in at warm springs and took out at black's ford. it was a four hour rain-soaked float. water temp and air temp were both about 40 degrees. we managed to catch about ten fish on the day. joel got the first fish of the day on an olive bugger. we caught the majority of the fish on nymph rigs. my best river fish to date came in the middle of the float. i was stripping a bugger across some shallow water (less than 2 feet deep) when i had a tug. i thought i had bottom til a nice brown rolled on the surface. thanks to joel for netting and taking pictures. he ended up taping at 21.5". a great day despite the terrible weather!
