1st day on the Madison

after almost a two year sabatical i found myself back on the upper madison river. it was a bright day of 42 degrees and no wind. snowbanks of up to 8 feet lined the banks...the small channels of the river were under sheets of ice. after wading and fishing for an hour i found a big section of open water. i finally hooked into an 18 inch brown, and 30 minutes later hooked into two rainbows, one at 19 and one at 16 inches. it was one of my best days ever on the river, sunny and no wind, eager fish, and absolutely no one around! prior to contrary thought fishing in montana in february can be productive. i will take it, its nice to be back...
